Stainless-steel HNS miniature angular contact ball bearings are used in a variety of applications where there is a risk of corrosion.
This bearing design consists of single-row bearings with a pronounced contact angle that can accommodate not only radial forces but also axial loads in one direction.
Under radial loading, an axial force component is always generated, which must be supported by a mating bearing.
The bearing clearance in single-row angular contact ball bearings is determined only upon installation and depends on the alignment with the mating bearing.
Instead of single bearings, paired bearings in O or X configurations with application-specific preload are also available.
O-arrangement (DB suffix):
An O-configuration allows for a large support distance and thus provides a highly rigid bearing arrangement. To achieve the factory-set preload, the inner rings must be tightly clamped against each other on the shaft.
X-arrangement (suffix DF):
An X-arrangement allows for a small support spacing and thus a less rigid mounting. To a limited extent, this can compensate for angular misalignment between the shaft and the housing. To achieve the factory-set values, the outer rings must be firmly clamped against each other within the housing.
The increasing miniaturization across a wide range of applications, coupled with rising demands on load-carrying capacity, precision, reliability, and service life, calls for a wide variety of possible bearing configurations.
Our miniature angular contact ball bearings can handle higher axial and/or radial loads than conventional miniature deep-groove ball bearings. In addition to their high precision, this bearing variant is characterized by its low deflection and high axial stiffness.
Dynamic load capacity of a bearing assembly:
Cges = i0.7 × C (single bearing), where i = number of bearings
Static load capacity of a bearing assembly:
C0ges = 2 × C0 (single bearing)
Limit speed of a bearing group:
nGges = 0.85 × nGE (single bearing)
In addition, our bearings are also available in chrome steel versions. You can find the corresponding product selection in the "Chrome Steel Rollers" section.
In addition to the bearing models listed here, SBN offers custom solutions tailored to your needs.

General
- Tolerance class P5 for bearings with the suffix “MSS”
- Other tolerance classes available upon request
- Pressure angle: 45° (may vary for certain bearing sizes)
- For bore diameters of 2 mm or larger, enabling extremely space-saving designs
- They can also be supplied as bearing pairs in O and X configurations (suffixes: “DB” and “DF,” respectively) with a specified preload
- No risk of mix-ups during installation thanks to differently colored cover plates (silver on the outside = O configuration, copper on the outside = X configuration)
Inner and outer rings
- Made of corrosion-resistant, high-performance HNS (High Nitrogen Steel)
- High-precision raceways for optimal friction and noise performance
- Additional options (e.g., coatings, carbonitriding, custom dimensions) are available upon request
Rolling elements
- Precision balls made of corrosion-resistant steel for smooth operation; alternatively, ceramic balls (electrically insulated hybrid bearings)
